Apparently the trend of vocal groups didn’t only bloom in the pop music scene in the ‘90s and 2000s. During that era vocal groups also jazzed up the scene of dangdut.

Those who grew up in the decade may still remember a few of popular dangdut vocal groups. But, for the current generation, who might not experience the heyday, here are five dangdut vocal groups that triumphed in that era.

#1: Manis Manja Group

Making their first appearance on TVRI, Manis Manja Group are Ine Shyntia, Lilis Karlina, Yulia Citra, Murnia Chania and Kitti Nurbaiti. They stole the public’s attention with “Aduh Buyung”, written by dangdut songwriter Fazal Dath. The group was also known for their hits such as “Jodoh”, “Biduan” and “Bete”. Later on, Lilis Karlina left the group to pursue a solo career.  

 

#2: Trio Sakhera

In the ‘90s dangdung singers Jhony Iskandar, Latief Khan and Imam S. Arifin joined their forces and formed a dangdut vocal group. Dubbed as Trio Sakhera, the group soon became a big hit among dangdut fans who were always looking forward to seeing idol performed on stage or television shows. Trio Sakhera were known for their hits “Putus Lagi”, “Untung” and “Kasihku”.

 

#3: Trio Sekar Langit

Trio Sekar Langit is the female answer to Trio Sakhera. Not to be outdone by their male counterparts, Evie Tamala, Camelia Malik and Iis Dahlia, three famous dangdut songstresses, went to form a vocal group called Trio Sekar Langit, whose performance was also a favorite amongst fans. Their hit song “Balada Dangdut” went to become the most played tune in dangdut shows. 

 

#4: G4UL

Most people can only named one member of this group: Saiful Jamil. But he’s not the only member of G4UL. Three other men also manned this group: Eka Sapta Nugraha, Adibal Sahrul and Qemil. But indeed in the end, Saiful Jamil was the most prominent and managed to maintain a presence in the scene with his solo project. G4UL was very popular among teenagers of the time with their hit song “Tak Bosan”. 

 

#5: Trio BAM

Members of Trio BAM are well-known female dangdut singers: Baby Ayu, Anis Marsella and Merry Andani. The group went to become successful with a dangdut disco song “Itu Bibir Jangan Memble”, which was writted by Jeffry Bule. Tri BAM was also known for other songs such as “Cinta Lima Kaki”, “Setangkai Bunga Padi” and “Mas Kamu Koq Loyo”. (Red.)
